ACM SL — Wind Turbine Training & Engineering Tools

Wind Turbine Tutorials & Practical Exercises

ACMSL tutorials are the textbooks of our training methodology: structured, progressive, and richly illustrated. Each tutorial accompanies a real-time simulator, covering the physical principles, components, control strategies, and operational scenarios for a specific wind turbine family.

7-1  DSAS – Dual Speed Active Stall WT Tutorial

Comprehensive tutorial describing the two-speed active stall wind turbine: aerodynamics, squirrel cage generator, soft starter, control strategies, alarm management, and operational scenarios. Covers both sub-nominal and above-nominal wind conditions.

7-2  DSAS – Practical Exercises

A set of guided practical exercises using the DSAS real-time simulator. Exercises progress from basic start/stop operations to advanced fault scenario analysis. Each exercise specifies the expected observations and learning outcomes.

7-3  RRC – Rotor Resistance Controlled WT Tutorial

Tutorial covering the wound-rotor induction generator with variable external resistance: physical principles of rotor resistance control, slip regulation, pitch system interaction, and the transition toward DFIG technology.

7-4  RRC – Practical Exercises

Guided exercises using the RRC simulator to build familiarity with rotor resistance control, slip variation, and partial-load vs. full-load operational transitions.

7-5  DFIG – Doubly-Fed Induction Generator WT Tutorial

In-depth tutorial for the most widely installed wind turbine family: DFIG topology, Back-to-Back converter operation, rotor-side and grid-side converter control, MPPT strategy, reactive power control, and fault scenarios (pitch problems, converter faults, grid disturbances).

7-6  DFIG – Practical Exercises

Exercises using the DFIG simulator: ranging from normal operation analysis to wind gust response, pitch system fault diagnosis, and converter behaviour under abnormal conditions.

7-7  Wind Farm / SCADA Tutorial

Tutorial covering the structure of a wind farm, the SCADA control centre, the electrical substation, communications with wind turbines, and the key characteristics of the Electric Grid relevant to wind farm operation (Grid Codes, reactive power, voltage regulation).

7-8  Wind Farm Functionalities Guide

A practical guide covering the functionalities of the Wind Farm SCADA simulator: how to navigate the interface, set operating parameters, analyse alarms, and interpret the real-time data displays.
